Mission Statement

The mission of the San Diego County Regional Occupational Program is to prepare a diverse population, 16 years of age and older, for further education, employment and occupational change.

Accounting/Computerized

Course Code: 460005

Description: This course provides entry-level or upgrade training in accounting theory and computerized accounting procedures. Employment possibilities include accounting clerk, bookkeeper, payroll clerk and accounts payable/receivable clerk. Instruction covers the following areas: principles of manual accounting, computerized accounting, electronic spreadsheets and job-seeking skills. Students use equipment which includes computers and 10-key printing calculators. Approximately 180 hours are needed to obtain minimum competencies for entry-level employment. Students may also take an additional 180 hours of advanced accounting.

Counseling Info: Students may participate in on-the job training as a part of this course. Students must meet required course standards and obtain permission of the instructor prior to an on-the-job training assignment. Students must conform to dress codes and other standards required by the training site management.

Notes: Course meets Mountain Empire's Practical Arts elective requirement for graduation. Course may meet a math requirement. High school students who achieve a grade of A or B may obtain 3 units of community college credit. Accounting 1-2 must be completed.

Course Length: 2 semesters, approximately 180 hours.

Credits: 5 per semester.
