Intermediate Algebra is especially designed for students who do not feel they are ready to keep up at the pace of a regular Algebra 2 class. This class covers most of the same topics and takes many of the same tests. The key standards for Algebra 2 are used in this class, however, time is allowed to remediate concepts from Algebra 1. Because this class does not cover all of the Algebra 2 standards and it is not recognized as a second year algebra class by San Diego State et al.
The main benefit to students is that much of the class time is spent in guided practice. Since students are encouraged to work together, they begin to talk about what they understand and what they do not understand. This conservation is the basis of new understanding of the many challenging concepts.
